Davao City Streets Flooded After Heavy Rain

Around 3 in the afternoon yesterday, heavy rain hit the city of Davao. Heavy rain lasted for only 30 minutes, but it leaved main streets and commercial areas flooded. The flood is high that it caused small vehicles to stop in the middle of flooded streets as water leveled their vehicle's engine. Since it's a Saturday, a lot of shoppers, office workers and party goers left stranded because of flood.

The above images were taken yesterday (Feb.12, 2011). This area, believe it or not was taken outside a shopping mall along J.P Laurel Avenue. Lots of people were stranded for a couple of hours because of dirty water. In fact water level was high that it went inside some establishments near the streets.

Comment:

Flooding has become a major problem of Davao City for more than 30 years now, and still no concrete solutions were implemented whatsoever. Yesterday's rain lasted only for 30 minutes - pouring water to flood Davao city's main streets about 2 feet high. What's more alarming is that yesterday's rain was only the effect of Inter-tropical Convergence Zone (ITCZ) affecting the whole area of Mindanao - not typhoon. Worst case scenario, if a strong typhoon will hit Davao City, for suer it'll flood the whole area of Davao City at a level more than 5 times the yesterday's water level.

Hoping that Davao City government initiates a move to solve the flooding problems drowning the city for more than 3o years now.

  1. Hi there. We're starting a Facebook page to get Dabawenyos to petition the government to be accountable for the loss of lives & property caused by last night's flash flood. I hope you don't mind our using one of your photos here for the Facebook page? It's called "BAHA na pud"
